inked to death

More killer MICA Talent in the spotlight. Check out Michael Hoeweler’s incredible Sumi Ink portraiture and editorial work in this week’s CLAW CLAW Artist Interview.

clawclawstudio:

Illustrator Michael Hoeweler specializes in realistic sumi ink portraits he sometimes digitally colors, but that’s only a fraction of his talent. Whether it’s the skin of a celebrity or mango, he masterfully conveys the surface and weight of anything he renders. It’s no shock his list of clients seems to never end and is full of some of the biggest names out there. Although Michael is a very down to earth guy, his eye/hand coordination is on another planet. Keep reading to learn about his how his career took off in the city that never sleeps. Click here to read the interview.

This week I met with multifaceted artist/illustrator/designer Rich Tu!

clawclawstudio:

This week’s artist Rich Tu has too many roles to be classified as just one type of creative. He is his own built in design team, which you can see and admire in his smartly art directed, visually bold illustrations and designs. His style often shifts, embracing the true nature of a Scorpio’s mantra of “transformation”. Whether his artwork is hot pink or floating in a pool, it’s distinctly his artistic voice. Read on to see what he had to say to Ray Jones about life and urban pole dancing.

Dana Veraldi, creator and artist behind DEER DANA, is a poster-child for John Lennon’s famous quote “life is what happens to you while you’re busy making other plans.” She started off as a photographer and now celebrities like the Biebs and HOV are wearing her screen printed drawings of other celebrities. Her brand is popping up all over the retail world, and it looks like this is only the beginning. Enjoy my chat with this T-shirt designing superstar.

This week I interviewed Alex Fine!

clawclawstudio:

Illustrator Alex Fine is divine, and like Divine the drag superstar, a staple in the Baltimore Arts. He’s our second interviewed artist to be obsessed with drawing hair. Whether it’s Lorde’s long locks or the purple sheen of a Raven’s feathers, it’s such a treat for the eyes. His clean and retro-inspired style is perfect for his hundreds of spot-on accurate portraits that have graced the covers of websites, magazines, and weekly papers across the US. Check out his website for the full client list. Grab yourself a cold Natty Boh and read on to see what Ray Jones had to ask the Rockabilly illustrator that never sleeps.

ARTIST INTERVIEW: ALEX FINE

clawclawstudio:

This week CLAW CLAW features fine artist, illustrator and designer John MacConnell!
This week’s Artist John MacConnell is living and loving life in NYC. He’s working full-time while also finding time to create a constant stream of beautifully mastered, no matter the medium, portraits of lean athletic men. His love of classical styles of working, mixed with his eye for design makes his work fresh. In its context his artwork is both just as much a nicely rendered figure study, as well as personally and socially relevant to John. It was great having him over at CLAW CLAW headquarters to catch up – read on to enjoy our interview.

This week CLAW CLAW met with illustrator Rebecca Bradley! It was great catching up with an inspirational teacher from my years as a student at MICA. See what she has to share about surface design, illustration, and the busy life of an artist and educator! Click here.

clawclawstudio:

On this last day of Mercury Retrograde (until June) we present UK born Illustrator and Professor, Rebecca Bradley. She’s currently living in Baltimore with her Artist husband Sam, teaching Illustration full-time at MICA, while raising two kids and still find time in the studio. You can see her loves of everything rainbow and Americana iconography unquestionably influence her colorful illustrations. Her style is somewhere between a more sophisticated folk art and vintage inspired — it’s fabulous. We had a great time catching up with Rebecca via Skype, seeing her beautifully organized wall of watercolor dyes and other fun materials art nerds would drool over. Click here to read the interview.
